I took this picture on my 16th birthday at one of my favourite places, Burleigh Hill on the Gold Coast in 2003. I had just bought myself a "camera-phone" and decided I wanted the first photo on it to be one I'd remember forever. As you can see I clearly had no photography skills, but that didn't stop me from taking what I thought was an awesome picture.

At the time I couldn't afford a nice camera, let alone the genuine accessories that came with them. I looked for alternatives, but nothing was available. I quickly gave up on photography and decided to wait a few more years until I was out of school and could afford the hobby.

Sadly I never got back into it until 2011, when I was introduced to the GoPro HERO 2. It was and still is an amazing little camera, however once again I found myself struggling to afford all the different accessories that came with it. I searched for cheaper local alternatives but had no luck. In 2014, I was sick of looking and decided to launch CamGear and help get quality camera gear into the hands of Aussies for much more affordable prices.

 

It has been 5 years since we launched and I'm still not a pro photographer..... but based on the feedback and thanks we've received, I am positive this small family business has now helped to create a few.
